Is the image of the Beast mentioned at Revelation 13 Artificial Intelligence? Well, not necessarily. I think it is important to understand what AI is first and then go from there when trying to apply it to Scripture.
What Is AI
Think of past inventions, the camera, the telephone, radar detector, the television, all these things changed the life of mankind greatly. Then we had computers, smart phone and automation within these systems. We then developed programs with variables in them. These programs would consider different various statuses, facts and make calculations. We as humans have always been making calculations of different various degrees. They manifest themselves in inventions like computing. AI is just an advanced form of computing based upon various inputs.
The Universe Computation
Look at the computing of the Universe. It is remarkable. Everything in precise movement and speed. We can make calculations and compute the placement of stars, planets and our earth. Orbits, rotations, cycles, these things are all predestined are they not? Perhaps there are no random things that happen in the universe but our ability to understand them becomes greater with time. In fact it is said that the most incomprehensible thing about the Universe is that it is comprehensible. That brings me back to AI.
Understanding AI
Man inventions like the telephone and AI become polarities to mankind. Their entire way of life changes. Think of when power tools were invented. Those that used manual tools and stuck to that method were soon out of business. AI is a new tool and just like any other polarity; changes will indeed come in a large way. Artificial Intelligence is a powerful computing tool developed upon models of computing. Yes it is all data, but computed much faster with a determined output based upon variables.
Variables
Remember back in school when you were first learning algebra. A + 2 = 3. This is the basic concept, A=1. Very simple, but then we get more advanced A + 2 -1=4. Now A = 3 in this equation. Not so hard but then it gets more and more complex. Yet, there is a determined outcome based upon the formula. Remember back in school when they were teaching you this and your parents were like, why are they teaching you things that you will probably never use? Well, AI uses them all the time. This is how they can compute a response, an image and even videos. All based upon variables and formulas, yes, the text that you enter into it.
Tools
Like we have examined in the past, tools can be used for good or evil purposes. AI is such a tool. People have full blown relationships with AI and the morality of that is debatable. However, the design of this tool is to provide responses; much like any tool mankind develops. How does a printer know what text to print from a screen? How does a frequency know to carry the tone, sound and pitch of a voice or a musical instrument? Why when you dial a phone number does it not ring everyones phone but the person you are calling? Yes, any tool can be used for good or evil purposes. You cannot say a hammer is evil just because it was used to murder someone; look at all the houses and shelters that were built with a hammer to shelter humans from the elements.
Discernment
You can make the choice and say AI is evil and refuse to use it. This is history repeating itself. When Nikola Tesla invented the alternating current, Thomas Edison electrocuted cows and dogs in public demonstrations to prove it was evil. Do you agree with him? Probably not, but why? You have discernment, you understand what Thomas did was evil, not the electricity. So now with AI, it is not AI but how it is used by humans that determine whether it will be good or evil; or perhaps a little of both.
Image of The Beast
So yes, this tool called Artificial Intelligence can be used to create an image to the beast in Revelation 13 that we know is the Roman Catholic Church. But who makes the image? The beast that looks like a lamb with 2 horns that arises out of the earth, the United States of America. How? Freedom of Religion is in their constitution, The word "Catholic" comes from the Greek word "katholikos", meaning "universal" or "general".
Watch It Play Out
We will have to see how this all plays out and record the details, but it will be interesting to see how AI is used to create this image if that is what is used. It seems probable and likely, AI does provide the means to do something like this. I think of the scripture that says that he will give honor to a god whom his father knew not. Stay Tuned!
