After many years of research and God's Grace, I believe I have identified successfully Mystery Babylon as mentioned in the book of Revelation 17.

And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE
GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. Revelation 17:5

This is one of those research projects that lead you down a rabbit hole, yet, it will not be revealed until God reveals it no matter how many rabbit holes you are willing to explore. For years scholars and Bible readers alike wondered at this, yet, it is right there in front of our face the entire time. However, let's do a throwback. We published an article several months ago called, "Who is Babylon The Great".  And although we stand by that post, we have more details to reveal. I will leave a link to that post below.

Who Is Babylon The Great?

The identity of Babylon the Great has been a subject of much discussion among Bible scholars, theologians, and believers throughout history. The term appears prominently in the Book of Revelation, where it is described as a great and powerful entity tha

Identifying Marks of Babylon the Great

OK we got to unpack, decipher and break this down piece by piece. This is going to blow your mind, so put your seatbelt on! The evidence is overwhelming and staggering. It will challenge everything you thought about Babylon the Great.

Personal Responsibility

It is important that you read these in order and look up the verses yourself in the Bible because I am not going to give you my answer until the end. I am hoping that you as the Elect of God come to the same conclusion by answering simple questions.

Understand the Man

Furthermore, you have to consider the time of writing, who is writing it, and what events have taken place in his life thus far. Only by understanding the man can you understand the vision. This is where humility is the key, a narcosis, prideful, egocentric, or arrogant person will not understand because you have to put yourself in the shoes of the one writing down and receiving the vision. Meditatie and become one with John the Apostle of the LORD. Learn about the events in his life, his timeline, what he knew, what he believed, his experiences are recorded for us for a reason. Get to know this man before ever attempting to unpack Revelation. This means observing the Commands of God in the Torah as well, because we know John did just that! Additionally, know the Feasts of the LORD discussed on this website.

Throwback How John Viewed The Spirit World

Dr Michael Heiser gives a great presentation on Deuteronomy 32:8 in "Unseen Realm". We understand that the sons of God {Israel}, who rebelled against Yehovah, were in charge of mankind. They are spoken of all throughout the Bible. This is why they could possess people and cohabit with them. They were trusted by the Most High and put in charge by Him before they become evil. However, as we all know these beings, eloheim {gods}, corrupted mankind, alienating them from the Most High.

They took possession of His creation as it were because of the unfaithfulness of mankind and in fact their assignments by Yehovah. Therefore throughout the entire Bible we read things like in the book of Daniel about these princes of the North, South, Persia, those are these spirit creatures who fell from God and set up their own empire with mankind.

It is established that sometimes they unite and sometimes they are odds with one another. The Apostle Paul also give us details about this spirit world letting us know that our fight is not against flesh and blood but against the wicked spirit forces in heavenly places. So unless you understand this, you will never understand Revelation because this is how the Apostle John viewed the world.

Babylon the Great is a Mother

Let's get this straight, Babylon the Great is a mother of harlots! What faith is it that started all other faiths, or at least the major ones? Read Revelation 17:5 and you will see and understand that she is the "Mother of Harlots"! Which means that she is the mother of all false religious unfaithful religions that we see on earth. Why? Because if she had been faithful, everyone would've known who the true God is! She was suppose to be a faithful wife to her LORD but she committed adultery and became a whore, with who you ask? With other gods! This should give you a good idea about her identity!

Mother of Abominations of The Earth

Not only is she the mother of harlots but all abominations of the earth. Abomination is sin, in order to sin, you have to be entrusted with God's Laws' and commands, right? You cannot be held liable for abominations if you do not know what they are. So what religion was entrusted with God's Law's and did not adhere to them? What religion received God's Laws?

She Sits On Many Waters

Revelation 17:1 says that she sits upon many waters. Now if you go down to verse 15 it tells you that these "waters" are, peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues. This means that this religion virtually can be found in every country throughout the earth! Somehow, every country is connected to this Harlot in some way shape or form.

Kings of The Earth Fornicate With Her

Now the kings of the earth fornicate with her as Revelation 17:2 brings out. This means that somehow they are in cahoots with this whore. They probably defend her, she probably goes to their countries and makes deals with them. Literally, since they are fonicating with her why would they not defend her. In fact she feels so secure Revelation 18:7 says that she claims to be a queen and glorifies herself, read it here.

How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, ...: for she saith in her heart, I sit a
queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow Revelation 18:7

So it is evident that she is very arrogant, prideful and feels totally secure that she will not see an end. Probably has a long history of favoritism amongst the powerful nations.

Inhabitants of the Earth Made Drunk

Verse 2 elborates some more, "and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication." What is this wine of her fornication? Sounds disgusting doesn't it? Sometimes we consume "feel good" information. This fires off dopamine in the brain and makes you feel good. What faiths around the world look to this "Babylon the Great" for this "feel good" information? Archeological discoveries? Theological insights? Hmm what else? Political influence maybe? What faith has documented their apostasy and fornication? What faith has a military power? hmmm

Names of Blasphemy

Next we read this,

So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. Revelation 17:3

What is blasphemy? Who has blasphemed God? What is this beast? Let's jump ahead to get to know this beast. "The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit..." in verse 8 and then again to reemphasize this we read in verse 11 "And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition:. So, this beast is filled with blasphemy, a military might that blasphemes God! Who can that be?

Blasphemy, at its core, is the act of showing contempt, irreverence, or insult towards a deity, sacred objects, or beliefs held to be inviolable. Derived from the Greek blasphemia, meaning "evil-speaking," the concept has a long and complex history, deeply intertwined with religion, law, and societal norms. Its interpretation and consequences have varied dramatically across different cultures and eras, ranging from a capital offense to a protected form of free speech.

Etymology and Core Meaning: The term "blasphemy" originates from the Greek words blaptein (to injure) and phēmē (speech), signifying speech that harms a reputation, particularly that of a divine being. This fundamental meaning of expressing disrespect towards the sacred has remained central to the concept throughout its history.

What military might is harming the reputation of God Himself? hmmmm!

Timeline

In order to understand this THINK OF THE TIMELINE! John is writing this in 95 A.D., what is this beast that was, but is not? But then will be? Possibly removed in 70 A.D. and back in the year 1948? I digress, you should make up your own mind.

The beast represents military power or angelic force, they have always represented military power and angelic forces. Just read the book of Daniel, all the beasts are military power and angelic forces. Understand that when John first sees this woman she is not on a beast, then next she is on a beast riding it. So this woman had military might in the past, lost it, and will have it again at some point in the future this timeline being 95 A.D. the time of writing this book of Revelation.

For Those Contradicting Johns Time of Writing Revelation

We have some people today that want to contradict the Apostle John's writing Revelation in 95 A. D. Let me remind those people that just because they think John did not write about the destruction of Jerusalem, does not mean that it was not destroyed by this time. John was writing what the Angel told him to write. Even in his other writings no apparent mention of the destruction of Jerusalem is mentioned, see 1,2,3 John for yourself that were written after Revelation was.

John was exiled to the Isle of Patmos by Caesar Domitian, Domitian ruled as Roman Emperor from 81 to 96 AD. That should tell you a lot, we have more than 2 sources for this.

Timeline (AD 80–100)

  • c. 85–95 — Ephesus ministry. Early sources place John living and leading in Ephesus late in the first century. Irenaeus says the church in Ephesus had John “remaining among them until the times of Trajan” (Trajan began in AD 98). New Advent

  • AD 95–96 — Exile on Patmos; Revelation written.

    • Irenaeus (c. 180): the Apocalypse “was seen … toward the end of Domitian’s reign” (Domitian died Sept. 18, 96). New Advent

    • Eusebius (4th c.): John “was condemned to dwell on the island of Patmos” during Domitian’s persecution. New Advent

    • Victorinus (3rd c.): John was “condemned to the mines by Caesar Domitian,” where he saw the Apocalypse. New Advent

  • Late 96 (under Nerva) — Return from exile. Ancient testimony links John’s release with Nerva’s reversal of Domitian’s actions (Nerva began AD 96). Victorinus notes John was dismissed from the mines after Domitian’s death; Eusebius preserves the same tradition. New AdventNew Advent

  • c. 96–100 — Back in Ephesus; Gospel & Letters.

    • Irenaeus places John still at Ephesus into Trajan’s time (post-98). New Advent

    • Sequence: A very early witness (Victorinus) suggests the Gospel of John was written after Revelation (“the Gospel … he subsequently wrote”). Many modern scholars date 1–3 John in the same late window. New Advent

Arrayed in Purple and Scarlet

So he carried me away in the spirit into the
wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having
seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked
with gold and precious stones and pearls
, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and
filthiness of her fornication: Revelation 17:3,4

Now the beast is scarlet, {red} and the woman is dressed in scarlet and purple, what could this mean? The purple and scarlet cloth, gold and precious stones were used in the earthly tabernacle or sanctuary. Isn't it interesting that what John is describing here are the colors and precious stones wore by the High Priest? It is no secret that golden cups, pitchers, dishes, walls, were used in the temple as well as we read in the Bible. Johns astonishment when writing down these precious stones and materials possibly made him think of the following image!

Having Seven Heads and Ten Horns

Let's back up and discuss this 7 heads and 10 horns. This is obviously symbolic of the spirit world rulers. Like the Lion represented Babylon in Daniel, the Ram representing Media Persia, {note: the 2 horns of the Ram, one for Media and one for Persia}. So there are 7 spirit world rulers in agreement with one another to accomplish a purpose. We will get into that purpose in detail but the main objective is to win, so keep that in mind.

Horns

Now what about these 10 horns? When we look back through the book of Daniel, the horns seem to represent men in charge. In Daniel 8, the "he-goat" with a prominent horn represents Alexander the Great, and the subsequent four horns symbolize his generals who divided his empire after his death. Then in Daniel 8:20 the horns of the ram represented the Kings of Media and Persia. Just so you understand the horns seem to represent men. Just as a beast controls what he does with his horns, the beast is controlling these men.

More on Seven Heads

Now the fact that you have these 7 heads on one body is interesting. These powerful spirits are working together, then the horns are the men or kings they control. It appears that these beasts control a different number of men. Because there are only 7 heads but then 10 horns. But the fact that the 7 heads represent the world powers of all time is interesting.

The Mystery Explained

Now remember the above for what we are about to read. The year is 95 A.D.

And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. Revelation 17:6

Now let's unpack this. I believe John is finding out who this harlot is and is suprised. Who before 95 A. D. had killed Yeshua's disciples, yet did not actually do the killing themselves necessarily? Yet, John wonders with great admiration. What is this? Now the next part is mind blowing, the angel describes who it is in detail and if you know the details, you will know who it is too!

And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.  Revelation 17:7

Now read carefully, there is not one word out of place, this is the dataset that has to match in order to accurately identify this vision.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into
perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book
of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
And here [is] the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the
woman sitteth. And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, [and] the other is not yet come;
and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he
is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. And the ten horns which thou sawest are
ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.  Revelation 17:8-13

Unpack Time

John see's a beast that was, but is not in 95 A.D. but will come again in the future ascending out of the bottomless pit. Think! What military might or nation was destroyed by this time, before 95 A.D.? Now, the angel speaks of the future when he says, "they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is" what happened in 1948? What reappeared?

Now the angel goes on to say, "The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

The Seven Hills of Jerusalem

Unlike the clearly defined seven hills of Rome within its ancient walls, the list of Jerusalem's seven hills can vary depending on the source and the historical period being considered. The hills often cited are a combination of ridges and high points both within and immediately surrounding the ancient city.

A commonly cited list of Jerusalem's seven hills includes:

  1. Mount Scopus: A prominent mountain to the northeast of the Old City, offering a panoramic view.
  2. Mount of Olives: A significant mountain ridge east of the Old City, mentioned frequently in the Bible. It actually has three main summits.
  3. Mount of Corruption: The southern peak of the Mount of Olives, where King Solomon is said to have built altars to foreign gods.
  4. Mount Ophel: The southern ridge of the Temple Mount, where the original settlement of Jerusalem was located.
  5. The Original Mount Zion: The hill of the City of David.
  6. The New Mount Zion: The Western Hill of the ancient city, which became known as Mount Zion in the Roman period.
  7. The hill of the Antonia Fortress: A hill in the northwestern corner of the Temple Mount where a fortress was built by Herod the Great.

Another interpretation identifies seven hills that surround the city, emphasizing its protected location as described in Psalms 125:2: "As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people."

More Revealing

Remember, everything revolves around this city that we are identifying, it must match all datasets!

The angel then says, "And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, [and] the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space." I understand this to mean that kings that had influence over Jerusalem, let's name them in succession from the beginning. Rome was not influenced by all these powers.

  1. Egypt
  2. Assyria
  3. Babylon
  4. Media & Persia
  5. Greece
  6. Rome {The one that IS}
  7. {The one NOT YET COME} {Papal Rome?, Assyria?} Who was the first to recognize Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel since 70 A.D.? USA?
  8. {Now this 8th King receives power} Let's discuss the detail provided.

The 8th King

Now, read the details, the 8th king receives power WITH the beast.

And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.  Revelation 17:11-13

Now, this is very evident to me that this is Apostate Israel receiving power and becoming the 8th head. Notice, they are of the seven! Meaning they are not even from that city in question! Everyone knows that these are European Jews, not even real blood Jews!

This is so deceptive and evil. This is like imagining all your worst nightmares times a million! No wonder why the Apostle John was so astonished. It seems the Apostle John is letting you know that this wicked spirit creature(s) that takes over Jerusalem poses as Israel. He deceives the nations into believing that Apostate Israel, the whore and mother of the Harlots and Abominations of the earth are God's chosen people. Think of it, we Elect are the Temple of God! Apostate Israel are imposters! We are the true Israel, the true Jews, the ones who actually keep the Commandments of God and the Ministry of Yeshua.

If you are consuming this information and it is revealing to you then you might be interested in some of the things Yeshua said about Jerusalem. Then hopefully you will be able to leave Babylon the Great or any of her whoredom religion offshoots.

The Case for Jerusalem as Mystery Babylon

Yes, based on Jesus' own words, Jerusalem was condemned as the killer of God's prophets. The primary evidence comes directly from the Gospels, where Jesus lays a unique and terrible guilt upon Jerusalem:

Matthew 23:34-35, 37: In a blistering critique of the religious leaders, Jesus says, "Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify... so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah... O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it!"

The parallel between Jesus' accusation and the charge against Babylon is stunning:

Jesus in Matthew 23:35: "...on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth."

John in Revelation 18:24: "And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on the earth."

The language is nearly identical. Proponents of this view argue that only one city in the Bible is explicitly charged with killing the prophets and being held responsible for all the righteous blood shed on earth: Jerusalem.

The Prostitute Metaphor

Furthermore, the "prostitute" metaphor in the Old Testament was almost always used for God's covenant people (Israel/Judah/Jerusalem) when they turned away from Him to idolatry and foreign alliances (e.g., in Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel). A pagan city like Rome could not be an unfaithful "wife," because it never had a covenant relationship with God in the first place.

The Case For Jerusalem as Mystery Babylon

While the evidence above is powerful, this interpretation faces significant challenges from other descriptions of Babylon in Revelation:

The Great City "that reigns over the kings of the earth" (Revelation 17:18): In the first century, Jerusalem was an occupied territory under the authority of the Roman Empire. Rome was unequivocally the great city that reigned over the known world. However, today that has significantly changed. We see political leaders "kings" especially from the USA taking orders from Modern Day Israel.

The "Seven Mountains" (Revelation 17:9): This is a famous and historically direct reference to the city of Rome, which was universally known for being built on seven hills. Yet, the application to Jerusalem is undeniable.

The Center of Global Commerce (Revelation 18:11-19): Babylon is depicted as a hub of immense global luxury and sea trade. Her fall causes an economic crisis mourned by "the merchants of the earth" and "every shipmaster." Although this description fits the first-century imperial capital of Rome better than first-century Jerusalem, the tides have changed. Rome is not as big a deal as Jerusalem when it comes to money and trade and global economy. They ship billions of dollars in goods worldwide and buy billions of dollars worth of goods. Not to mention they are a nuclear power which cannot be said of Rome, ;-) Furthermore, those that practice Judaism can be found in every powerful market and every powerful country. Not to mention media worldwide and the bank roll it holds.

A Possible Synthesis

Many theologians resolve this by seeing layers of fulfillment. Apostate Jerusalem serves as the prototype for Babylon. She is the original "prostitute" who, despite her covenant with God, turned against Him and murdered His messengers.

In this view, the guilt of apostate Jerusalem did not vanish when the city was destroyed in 70 AD. Instead, its spirit of rebellion and persecution was inherited and magnified by a larger entity—the pagan Roman Empire, which then persecuted the new covenant people, "The Way" or "True Israel", "True Jews". Therefore, Mystery Babylon in Revelation is a composite figure that embodies the sins of both apostate Jerusalem and pagan Rome, representing the ultimate culmination of all worldly, religious, and political systems that stand in opposition to God and persecute His true people.

So, you are correct to see Jerusalem's profile in the description of Babylon. That city's tragic history of killing the prophets is the key that unlocks the kind of guilt Babylon possesses. Even though most scholars conclude that the full scope, power, and global influence of Babylon described by John points to its primary identification with the Roman Empire of his day, which itself serves as a model for a future, final anti-God world system. Who would of ever thought that "Apostate Israel" would rise again in 1948 only to have their capital, "Jerusalem" recognized in recent years by the USA!

Murderous Israel

Now we see that those who look upon this rising with admiration and wonder, their names are not written in the book of Life from the founding of the world as the Apostle John mentions. John would not of been surprised if it was Rome, he would of been very surprised if it was Jerusalem! Just let that sink in your head for a minute. You have to look at it from Johns viewpoint, Jerusalem was the City of God, if the angel was showing him Rome that would not be a surprise at all. Notice his speech.

And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.  Revelation 17:6

Think of that, anyone back then would attribute this writing to Rome, they still do today! Where would the mystery lie? John is in a state of wonderment because it's Jerusalem, Israel, yes God's own (previous) people that were entrusted with the Law and everything righteous. Now we see this city today is more active than ever. They murder and starve their neighbors, constantly going out on military campaigns, and worst of all, they STILL do not recognize Yeshua as the Messiah. The God that gave them the Law they reject totally.

Shalom Shalom
