The most direct and explicit reference to the Book of Enoch in the New Testament comes from Jude, the half-brother of Jesus:

📜 Jude 1:14–15 (KJV)

“And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying,
Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds...
”

This quote is a near-verbatim citation of 1 Enoch 1:9, a portion of the ancient Enochic literature.

🔍 Other Possible Allusions (Indirect)

While Jude is the only direct quote, other New Testament writers—especially Peter and Paul—appear to show thematic or conceptual influence from 1 Enoch, especially in topics such as:

⚖️ 1. The Judgment of the Fallen Angels

  • 1 Enoch 6–16 describes the fall of the Watchers (angels) who sinned by mating with human women.

  • 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 6 seem to draw from this:

“God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell..." (2 Peter 2:4)
“And the angels which kept not their first estate...” (Jude 6)

This idea does not appear in the Old Testament Canon, but is central to Enoch.

🌌 2. Cosmic Judgment and Fire

  • 1 Enoch repeatedly emphasizes final judgment by fire, especially on the wicked and rebellious angels.

  • Echoes appear in:

    • 2 Thessalonians 1:7–8 – “…in flaming fire taking vengeance…”

    • Revelation 20 – Lake of fire imagery

✨ 3. Son of Man and the Elect One

  • The “Son of Man” figure in 1 Enoch 46–48, 62–69 is a preexistent, heavenly being who sits on the throne of glory and judges the world.

  • This concept strongly resembles Jesus’ “Son of Man” title and role in:

    • Matthew 24:30

    • Revelation 1:13

Though Jesus never names Enoch, the title and role match very closely with 1 Enoch’s depiction.
